How To Recover Hacked Facebook Account in 2020? – [Updated]

- If only the password has changed and you still have access to the associated email of the account then you may go to the "forgot password" option at the facebook login page.
- Facebook will lead you to another page and will ask you to enter either your username, email address or the phone number. You can select any of the options.
- Facebook will find your profile, view your specific profile enter either the email address or mobile number and click on "continue".
- A recovery code will be sent to your desired recovery option. Enter that code and click continue.
- Now set your new password and your account will be ready to use again.
If no access to email:
If the hacker has gone a little further with hacking your account, and your associated email cannot be accessed then you must take the following steps to recover it.
- Click on the forgot password option.
- Now let Facebook search your profile by entering your username or email address
- Once you have been located by Facebook, click on your profile, a dialogue box will open to reset your password.
- Click on "no longer have access to these" as you do not have access to your associated email address.
- Then extended recovery options will be given and it depends on the age of the facebook account. Old facebook accounts have the option of Security question to recover their account.
- New Facebook users can use the option of "trusted contacts" to regain access to their account. For doing so, enter the email address you have access to, and click on reveal my trusted contacts and enter the name of one of them. Facebook will provide a link that only your trusted contact can access. Ask them to click on the link and get the security code for you. Enter the security code to recover your account.
If Password and email address changed:
If your password, as well as the associated email, has been changed, then the chances of recovering the account have somewhat reduced. To get through this type of situations there are two procedures that you can apply. It will require you to recover the account either by your mobile number or old email address.
- By recovering from the mobile number all you need to do is go to the facebook page. Click on the forgot password option. Then enter your account information like username or email address, once your Facebook profile appears, click on it and recovery options will appear. Click on the mobile number option. Enter your mobile number, Facebook will send you a text message in which a security code will be given. Enter the recovery code to the dialogue box. Now you will be able to set a new password for your facebook account.
- The other way is to recover with email change notification. If your email address has been changed, then Facebook will send an email to your previously entailing email address and notify you about the email change.
- If your email id has been hacked, then there will be an option "if you did not do this, please secure your account" click on it. You will be given the option to secure your account.
- Then Facebook will provide you with a number of recovery options according to the account and security. You may be asked to upload the government ID, Facebook will verify it and reactivate your account.
- Another option will be to enter your date of birth to recover the account.
- Another fun option is that Facebook will ask you to recognize your friends by showing you their pictures and asking their names.
Method -2 (Updated on 19th of May – 2019)
If none of the methods worked for you to recover your facebook account, here is the new updated methods for you. Facebook just published a new security update which allows you to reset your password without any verification (in some cases) only if you try to reset your password from the device that you use mostly for login to Facebook. It means that if your facebook got hacked, and if you tried many methods and not worked just try the method below;
- Open the device that you use mostly for Facebook like log-in, log-out or any activity that you've made mostly.
- For example; your iPhone using it for 2 years for Facebook as well.
- Just try to recover / reset your password from that device.
- If Facebook recognizes your device, you'll be able to reset your password without any verification.
- To increase your chance, if its possible, while trying to reset your Facebook password, use the Wi-Fi / Network you use for Facebook mostly like your Home Wi-Fi etc.
This may not work on your case, but you should try. If you still could not achieve it, just put your comment below so we can give some suggestions for your case.
Method -3 (Updated on 18th of June – 2019)
Facebook currently launched / extended a service called: Identity Verification. With this feature, you will be able to confirm your identity by sending government issued ID. After sending your ID, Facebook will response to you in 1-3 days and will help you to get back your account easily. Here are the steps:
- Go to: https://en-gb.facebook.com/help/contact/183000765122339
- Fill the form, attach your government issued ID.
- Send the form to Facebook and wait couple of days.
- Then Facebook will send you an e-mail about recovery.

These are the ways through which you can recover your hacked account. Though your account was hacked but have you ever wondered why it happened in the first place? You must try to make your Facebook account safe and secure. For doing so, one thing you must be clear about is to never use the facebook password for any other accounts that you own. When I attach my ID to the request page and submit it one of two things happens:
1. I get a message telling me the picture is too small. I've read other posts saying to upload a PNG file, which I've also done. This brings me to the second thing that happens,

Hello Famoid so far you are the most ok guy to somehow somewhat give people having the same issue regarding hacked account a little ray of sunshine. My problem is also similar to them it's just that not only my Facebook(email, password, associated number changed) but also messed up my linked Instagram. The good thing is I was able to retrieve and secure my Instagram account. The problem is my Facebook still remain as is…no access. I did a little research; even went to the trouble of checking my account(now with a different name and location, most pics deleted yet posts still there and friends list ok with a few added people of which I think from the hackers location) through a dummy account or borrowed friend's account with permission…gained few infos. Tried scaring him, didn't work(he does reply every now and then). I was able to get a hold of the new email he used on my account though and it is accurate through my research(I checked the people he added). I tried all the possible steps(not a hundred percent sure though done the right way but tried multiple combinations with the processes) written in your post but to no avail. I have already asked to friends to report but still not disabled therefore last option where it requires submitting ids will not be an option just yet. Is there any way you can help me? My Facebook account was hacked five weeks ago, and when I went in to change my password, I was taken through security questions then they suddenly locked me out (and subsequently, my Instagram). What I didn't realise at the time, was that the hacker/s had started using my Facebook ad manager to run a campaign, charging over $4000AUD to my bank account. Interestingly, this was not flagged with me at the time of asking me security questions, so while I was locked out, the Ad campaign was allowed to run and rack up thousands of dollars. I hav3 tried emailing Fb, lodging forms through the support pages (which I can't do through my account …I just found threads via Google, and selected No' in the Was this helpful box, and gave them my story in the comments, They have now blocked me from doing this, and have blocked my attempt to set up a new account. It's a distressing situation. Please try to reset your password from your device which you've used for Facebook login mostly.
If you use that device, Facebook will detect it and will enable you to change your password without ID verification.

A hacker changed my email and password and set up 2 step authentication. By submitting my ID I was given a link to reset my password. When I try to login it wants the code generator sent and I'm not getting one. Don't know if it's going to the hacker. I'm assuming my email is changed since they sent me the link. Hi famoid. Logged back into Facebook after many years. Note that I'm on a new device and don't have access to the old one. So I was logged in just fine, but it was a subtle Mike->Michael namechange that locked me out.
Got access to email and can reset password, but it keeps coming with an identity check after. Now when I finally managed to get three codes from Trusted Contacts, submitting them shows an error "The text you entered does not match the security check. Try again."

Famoid, I spent yesterday afternoon & today trying to recover my hacked facebook account using Facebook Help which is the same as all the steps you mentioned but to no avail. Despite the 2 factor verification, the hacker still manage to hacked my account, I tried resetting so many times, gave a different email than the one in my FB, send my ID verification, received the link click the link which you can only used once and gives you a screen to enter the code. I never received any code but it already states , the code is not valid anymore or you have tried entering too many codes-try again later. When I click on "didn't get a code', it brings you back to resetting the account with the hacker's email and the cycle begins. I tried using a different email, but it is the same. So I signed up for another Facebook account & gave the same cell phone. The response was,"You can't use Facebook right now. We are reviewing the photo sent to us…." I realized i should have use an email instead of my phone because now, when I tried to open facebook, the new account comes up and when I log in, the same message comes about not being able to use facebook right now. I can access all my emails so I changed every password & secured it with 2 step verification for gmail & yahoo accounts. When I opened the email associated with my facebook & checked recent aciivity, it shows that the hacker downloaded a hacebook hack application from Crypstake,com ( I tried to go there but site can not be reached) and on the email added his email which I deleted. I sent several "my account was compromised" & hope facebook can get me back my account & put more security since their 2 factor didn't work. Thank you for your help if you have other solutions.

Sadly, Facebook has many bugs / vulnerabilities inside.
So some people can hack the account even if 2FA enabled, I am sure that this is the biggest issue of Facebook for now.
Only thing you can do is that when Facebook replies to your Identity verification case, you'll be able to reply that e-mail.
So, you can mention this problem in this e-mail thread, and they will fix it!
In this case, direct contact with Facebook is obligatory, so you need to wait to get response from Facebook.

My husband's account got hacked. The email linked to his account is so old we can't access it anymore. He submitted his ID and got a link from FB, which in turn says "you have tried entering too many codes. try again later." He never gets a code though. And at the bottom of the error, it has a link that says "didn't get a code?" When he clicks the link it says it will send a code to the old email he can't access. So we just go round and round in circles on this.

A bit of background. I had a message on Thursday night from Facebook to say someone had tried to access my account from Iraq. I changed to another very strong password. I tried to log in but with no joy, I did manage to change my Password and received an email with my confirmation code on it and then an email confirming password change.

The methods you give above (including sending your ID) will only work if the email or phone number is still the same on the hacked account. If like me, both email and phone# were changed, you are SOL. There is no way to do it unless FB decides to add customer service. I am devastated. 10 years worth of friends and memories lost.

Facebook keep your changed e-mail in memory for 7 days in case of stealth.
So even if the hacker changes it, you'll still have chance to send request for 7 days.

If you send the ID to Facebook, they will temporarily limit the account and that will help the stop hacking process.

First it tells me to check new friends added, then to check posts I've made, once I go through the process it asks me to change my password and then it goes straight back to the beginning of the process. A friend's FB was hacked along with his yahoo email address. The hacker is from Hong Kong, I was able to download the account data to figure out what happened and found out that FB blocked the hacker from posting for 14 days, he posted offensive and XXX content. My friend was able to recover his yahoo email and he was able to change the PW for FB through the link in his email. We are stuck at the Phone Number verification screen, our guess is that the hacker changed the recovery phone number to his. In my case, I was randomly logged out and tried to log back in. After entering my password, it goes onto a security check to with a code being sent to an old number that I don't have access to (it was a number from when I lived in Spain and I have since moved and the number is no longer active). It looks like Facebook hacking is affect huge numbers of people, including me!! I live in Western Australia, and received questionable email from FB on Jan 28 at 11.28pm, saying my acc had been logged into on Jan 28 at 11.23 pm by someone using a Windows 10 machine. I use Macs, so I guessed this was a hack.
They said my acc was safe but just wanted to make sure it was me who logged in. They then asked me to log into the supplied Facebook link so they can run me through a few steps if I was suspicious.
I was suspicious of both the email and the claim, and went to my FB page on my imac, and it immediately refreshed and came back with a page saying: "Please confirm my identity" with a 3 step process, and hit 'continue', which I did.
The next page had two selection buttons: either have an 8 digit code sent to my email, or 'Approve a login on another device'.
I chose the email code. I have not received an email from FB after about 20 attempts.
I then chose the new device, which didnt work either.
Another selection came up to pick 3 of my 'FB friends' and call them to discuss whats happening, and for them to go to site callled facebook.com/recover to get a code which they can send to me. No one can find where the codes are on this page, and I cannot access it to see?

They told me to send a photo which I did but then they sent message that due to the virus situation they are understaffed and may not be able to get me back on. I just started the account to be able to watch the Catholic Mass in my hometown on Sunday and that I cannot do now. Try clicking on "forgotten password" and enter your email address. However, even though it finds my email address in their system, it still will not let me log on. When I try to send the a picture of a government ID, it says that I have to log on first. The whole problem is that I can not log on.

Also, I've been able to get to the place to re-set the password and it says 'unknown error' and won't go any further. My account seems to be inactive at this time. Not sure what to do or how at risk for further hacking I am at. Super frustrating trying to deal with fb. They have basically NO customer support that I can see. I'd love some help.
